POMT Lesson Plan Draft is available for teachers
Over the course of the grant which funded POMT, GEV worked with a teacher consultant (now an Einstein Fellow) to develop a sample lesson plan.
What can we do for you? Let us know. We have several opportunities for working with science teachers. Check out our Lesson Plan for Powers of Minus Ten.
In?Our Cells, Our Selves?you are invited to a science bedtime story with 7-year old Sylvie, a recently diagnosed diabetic, who is discovering the wonders of the immune system. Sylvie's mother tells a story that takes us back hundreds of millions of years to explore how the balance between access to food and immune protection evolved into the modern human immune system. Learn that under rare circumstances, things can go wrong, leading to auto-immune diseases like Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. The story closes with a look at the future of medicine and the potential for cures!
Runtime:?15 minutes
Keywords: diabetes, immune system, metabolism, digestion, regeneration, pancreas, stem cells
Gray Matters: The Brain Movie is a fun, in-depth look at how the brain works, both biologically and psychologically.
From the project titled "Tracking the Human Brain" came an interactive planetarium show about the human brain. This DVD contains an edited version of Gray Matters that allows the original experience to be brought to viewers at home and at school.
Join Dr. Blake and his guests from Planet Axon for an exciting ride through the biology of the brain. Learn about the difference between "brain" and "mind," and explore the way we humans perceive the world, through the eyes of a very perplexed (and goofy!) alien race.
Runtime: 20 Min
Appropriate for all audiences.
A super value for teaching the latest research in biomedicine and health topics. Includes 3 Movies and dozens of accompanying classroom activities.
In The Unbelievable Lab, Dr. Allevable and Regenerobot invite you into their laboratory as they investigate the new and exciting field of regenerative medicine! The human body is vulnerable to injuries?bone breaks, skin burns, and heart attacks , and regenerative medicine can help us heal faster by enhancing the ways that the body heals itself. The characters explore the biology of the bone and heart in detail.
The Tissue Engineering for Life show details the same content but without the animated characters and is geared towards an older audience.
